But first, some of our favorite quotes from some of our favorite books!

"...Last year however, he came down with a severe case of IFTHS (I'm From The Hood Syndrome). The symptoms were sudden and baffling, as they often are. He'd started wearing a black wool hat. His baggy pants hung low. He flashed signs for nonexistent gangs. His friends became his 'dawgs!' Everything he said came in a 'yo' sandwich; all utterances began and ended in 'yo' (Example 'Yo, where my dogs at, yo?')" -The Wessex Papers: Trust Falls, by Daniel Parker

"His honesty is commendable, but I work with women and I'm not used to it." -Running In Heels, by Anna Maxted.

"I see Frankenstein as a misunderstood nonconformist." -Gingerbread, by Rachel Cohn.

"After an hour, my butt hasn't just fallen asleep, it's gone into a coma." -Acceleration, by Graham McNamee

Be More Chill book cover BE MORE CHILL by Ned Vizzini

Read "Be More Chill" and it becomes shockingly clear that Ned Vizzini is someone to be honored and possibly worshipped. This book is great and the phenomenon that followed it is most likely better. But more about that later. We have plots and other important stuff to discuss. Be More Chill is from an uncool guy's perspective and it's harshly honest. So girls, if you really want to see how guys think, read this and become thoroughly disgusted with the male species. Jermey is a regular uncool guy. He is in love with a girl in his Math class (Who whould have thought that math would be a place for young love? For me, it's more of a place of pain and hatred, you know?) And well, he has dandruff, a massive amount of friends (one) and a "loser-stalker" reputation. Until he hears about the squip. This tiny computer in a pill that you swallow and goes into your blood system and travels to your brain tells you how to be cool - what to wear, who to talk to, who to shun, and what to say. It also remembers everything for you (something particularly handy for pop quizzes). But suddenly things with the squip don't become as particularly great as Jeremy imagined them.
But the real question is: Is the squip real or some made up fictional plot? Well, there is only one way to find out. Google it. (Could-Be-Reality)

Truth About Forever book cover THE TRUTH ABOUT FOREVER by Sarah Dessen

The Truth About Forever is a great novel written by New York Times best-selling author, Sarah Dessen. The book focuses on an unexpected summer of change for the main character, Macy. Throught the novel, Macy deals with the death of her father, a surprise beak-up, a new job, and a controlling mother. The reader watches Macy transform from a perfectionist to a free spirit, as she finds a new love and learns that everything in life is not going to happen according to plan.
Highly recommended. (Reviewed by Amber, Age 15)

A-List book coverTHE A-LIST by Zoey Dean

This series about Anna, an Upper-East side WASP, who moves to L.A. is one of the best of its kind - that is, somewhat shallow, but completely entertaining, books about rich teens behaving badly. This series is my favorite because the main character is not shallow, self-centered and spoiled like the people she is surrounded by. She is intelligent and in control, and is completely shocked by the outrageous behavior of her peers. Fast-moving and glamorous, it is the perfect summer read: light, entertaining and full of Hollywood culture. (Reviewed by Alaina, Age 16)

Charmed Thirds book coverCHARMED THIRDS by Megan McCafferty

Megan McCafferty has done it again in another cleverly titled novel as she portrays the life of a fairly typical college student in Charmed Thirds. Not quite as good as the first two novels in the Jess Darling series (Sloppy Firsts and Second Helpings), Charmed Thirds focuses on the last three years of Jess' college experience, both at home and at Columbia, through a journal. Jess struggles with school work, jobs, new friends, her long distance relationship with Marcus Flutie, and a new love interest. Filled with honesty, this book is a must read for every teenage girl. And for those who enjoy the Jess Darling novels, Megan McCafferty is currently working on the 4th book in this series. (Reality Fiction) (Reviewed by Amber, Age 17)

Speak book coverSPEAK by Laurie Halse Anderson

New high schooler Melinda Sordino busted an end- of-summer party by calling the cops. Now none of her friends will talk to her, and people she doesn't know "hate her from a distance." She wants to tell someone, anyone, what really happened that night . . . she was raped by a senior. Through a first-person narrative given by Melinda, a teen with a dark, cynical sense of humor . . . hey, this sounds familiar . . . I think SOMEONE has been a bad influence on me . . . but I digress. This book will have you laughing out loud even as Melinda's life is spiraling out of control. And if you like this one, read the companion book, Catalyst. (Real Life Fiction) (Reviewed by Suzanne Who Has a Really Awesome Taste in Books, Age 13)
Quotes from Speak:
"My Spanish teacher is trying to go through the rest of the year without speaking English. This is both amusing and useful. It makes it easier to ignore her."
"School - our lovely local prison."
"I just though of a theory that explains everything. I was abducted by aliens. They have created a fake earth and a fake school to study me and my reactions. This certainly explains cafeteria food. Not the other stuff, though. The aliens have a sick sense of humor."

JUST ELLA by Margaret Peterson Haddix

It's kind of a twist on Cinderella - what happens after she marries the prince (which the movie so kindly left out so we could sit here and wonder...I think that's the reason why the author chose to write the book). I know they have a Cinderella 2, but this book is much different and better. So, have you ever thought if maybe the prince was a self-centered moron and the only good thing he had going for him was his looks? If you haven't, well now you don't have to wonder because you can read about it in this book!
"This was a great book and I'd recommend it to almost anyone (notice the ALMOST - that means boys wouldn't particularly like this book) - a great read for anyone who enjoys ummmmmmmm... reading (except boys...unless a version of Cinderella is your thing - then by all means read the book, but I would personally advise you to see a psychiatrist, too)." (Fiction)
