WATER YOUR MIND - READ!!
A Summer Reading Program for Adults
July 6 - August 7, 2010

Adults are encouraged to read, listen & watch 5 (or more) items at home during the 5-week program. Participants obtain a “report card” at the library when they start the program. Then you take the report card home & note when you have read, watched or listened to items in the library’s collection. To complete the program, you need to: read one fiction title; read one nonfiction title; read one biography; watch one DVD or video (fiction, nonfiction or biography), and listen to one audio book (fiction, nonfiction or biography). After you’ve read, viewed or listened to each of the 5 types of items, hand in your completed report card to the Circulation Desk to receive prizes and be entered in a drawing for 5 grand prizes & more chances to win! In addition, those who participate in our Water Your Mind Adult Reading Program can also take advantage of some terrific Special Programs, including craft programs, films, and our regular adult book discussions, which are planned in conjunction with the adult program. XERISCAPING: Creating a Low-Maintenance, Water-Wise Landscape

Want your garden to thrive in spite of summer drought and the ravages of a dry, windy winter? Take a look at some tough and hardy perennials. TUESDAY NIGHT KNITTING CLUB
Tuesday, July 13th @ 7 PM

Under the direction of our resident crafter Betty Cox, the club meets to help beginning knitters get started and guide more advanced knitters through works in progress. Beginning knitters should bring a set of No. 9 knitting needles and one skein of worsted weight knitting yarn. Advanced knitters can bring a program to work on. “The Madwoman in the Attic”: Victorian Feminist Literature

Join retired literature SUNY Orange professor Joan Siegel as she examines Victorian literature from a feminist perspective in the last meeting of this three-part series. H2O PHOTO CONTEST AND EXHIBIT
Starts Tuesday, July 6, 2010. Entries are due Monday, July 26, 2010.
Awards ceremony and reception Sunday, August 8 @ 2 p.m.

Photographers and other creative geniuses: Get out your cameras and create works of life imitating art. Photographers and other creative geniuses of all ages: Get out your cameras and take photos of water and water activities in bathtubs or pools, and in lakes, ponds and rivers, or at water parks. Pose your family, your friends, your pets or anything you want in photographs in or on the water. Judging will take place Wednesday, July 28. People’s Choice voting will take place Wednesday, July 28-Saturday, July 31. Prizes will be awarded in these categories: most creative, most unusual, People’s Choice, best in show. Awards ceremony will be held Sunday, August 8 at 2 p.m. Photos will remain on display until Wednesday, August 11, and must be picked up by Sunday, August 15. Open to all ages.

Photography Contest Rules
  • Limit of two entries per person. Entries must be received by Monday, July 26.
  • Entries must be taken by the person submitting the photo(s).
  • Each photo must have name, phone number and painting information on back, and must be accompanied by a signed entry form.
  • Photos by may black and white or color.
  • Photos may not be larger than 8 x 10; glossy prints preferred.
  • Each photo must have a title and caption.
  • Photos will be judged on subject, creativity and composition.
  • Photos should not be in bad taste.
